ACTION: Institute for Environment Health and Development Communication (Abbreviation - Action)  was established in 1987 as a result of the apparent need for information materials for children in the areas of health, development and environmental issues. It´s vision continues to be that of an informed and empowered Zimbabwean Community able to take control of their lives.

Over the years ACTION has developed educational materials in the form of magazines, booklets and posters which have been distributed to all schools around the country, mainly targeting children between the ages of 10 and 14 years of age.

In view of the growing complexity of the HIV and AIDS pandemic, ACTION through its partnership with Soul City, a South African based NGO, is working on a multi-media campaign, which includes social mobilization and advocacy activities, to promote positive behaviour change in matters to do with health and social development.

As part of this partnership, ACTION has successfully developed and grown two
multimedia brands: Action Pals and Action For Life which target children between the ages of 10 and 14 and adults respectively. To date ACTION has produced 4.25million magazines in English, Shona and Ndebele and distributed them to over 6500 schools and more than 2000 hospitals, clinics and health centres. It has also produced a 26 episode by 10min radio drama series that was broadcast country wide in Shona and Ndebele and was a part of the regional television drama series packaged as “Untold Stories “screened within the region.

Action has developed specialized skills in the areas of research and print production. It has a research and design and production unit that is housed within the organization. Over the years Action has conducted numerous research activities and design work leading to the development of edutainment materials for itself as well as other organizations.
